Location for our events, lectures & seminars

New College Madison presents its programs in facilities in a variety of locations around Madison: various churches, both on campus and around town; and, depending on the type and size of the program, at the student unions, auditoriums on the UW-Madison and Madison Area Technical College (MATC) campuses, and the State Historical Society auditorium.

New College Madison programming continues, which Vern Visick, NCM's director, is on sabbatical.

Discussion groups

  • Second Thursdays of each month, 7:30-9 a.m., Memorial Union Cafeteria: Madison Green Salon, discussing selected books and articles dealing with the ethics, politics, and theology of the environmental crisis. September 10 article, from Orion Magazine : "Forget Shorter Showers," by Derrick Jensen (why personal life style changes will not solve the environmental crisis, but systemic changes might do the trick). Dave Steffenson is coordinator.
  • Third Thursdays of each month, 12 noon to 2 p.m., Haystack Room, IV Headquarters, 6400 Schroeder Road, Madison: Missiology Discussion Group. August 27 book: Phillip Jenkins's The Lost History of Christianity: The Thousand-Year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia – and How It Died. September 24 book: Brian Stanley's The World Missionary Conference, Edinburgh 1910. Ned Hale is coordinator.

Special events

  • Monday, January 18, 2010, 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m., Wisconsin State Capitol Rotunda: Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration. Co-sponsored with Africasong and Wisconsin Public Radio and TV.
  • Thursday, February 4 to Saturday, February 6, 2010, various locations on and about th UW-Madison campus: Campus visit by Mako, well-known Christian visual artist. Lecture, talks, show, conversations. Co-sponsored with Geneva Campus Church, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship graduate and faculty ministries, CIVA (Christians in the Visual Arts).
  • Sunday, April 25, 2010, early to late afternoon, First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison. Food, Faith, and Earth Day program. Co-sponsored with a number of Madison area congregatgions and meeting houses. Brian Joiner, coordinator. Watch this space for further details.
